Background
Northern Power has been a leader in wind power technology for over 30 years, and continues to set the standard for advanced technology and high reliability in wind power. The company’s Northwind 100 turbine is sized specifically for distributed wind applications: villages, schools/universities, commercial farms, municipalities, and business campuses. The Northwind 100 utilizes direct drive technology and a permanent magnet generator to provide best-in-class energy capture, high reliability and low cost of maintenance.
Our Partnership
Northern is an innovative wind turbine manufacturer that was sold by a faltering parent who had declared bankruptcy. It is a leader in the nascent community wind market with a proven 100kW turbine, and it is applying that core technology to the utility-scale wind market with an innovative 2.2MW machine. The new buyers of Northern reached out to RockPort and asked us to take a look. After a day with the Northern engineering team and the CEO, whom we knew from several prior (and very successful) companies, we recognized the opportunity and engaged.
