Background

Soliant Energy designs and manufactures concentrator photovoltaic modules for grid-tied and off-grid, residential and commercial markets. Its goal to dramatically reduce the price of solar electricity for consumers by effectively engineering the solar technologies that are available today into a practical solution that allows consumers to begin saving money now. In contrast to the other concentrator modules on the market today, Soliant Energy’s product includes concentration and solar tracking within the traditional form factor of a 4′ x 6′ solar panel. In addition, the tracking system is self powered and plug compatible with conventional “flat plate” x-Si products.

Our Partnership

RockPort predicts that the solar market winners are going to be those companies that offer both low cost and high efficiency, not just one or the other. So when we met Soliant’s founders – alumni of NASA’s jet propulsion laboratory – we moved quickly to lead their first round of financing. Using space age materials and low cost assembly techniques, Soliant is commercializing an affordable high concentration solar module that tracks the sun throughout the day to maximize the energy output of a given area of roof space. Chuck McDermott comments, “Soliant combines the twin attributes of high power output and low cost, making it a killer app for the commercial rooftop.”
