Deep data analytics leader experiences rapid growth as utilities demand improved customer intelligence and engagement tools
FirstFuel Software, the trusted source of business energy intelligence, today announced record performance in 2014 and strong momentum heading into the new year. Rapid customer growth, record financial performance, new strategic partnerships and strong additions to the advisory board have the company poised for continued success in 2015.
FirstFuel’s deep data analytics platform allows utilities to become energy advisors to their business customers by identifying and providing unique insights that help optimize building energy performance at unprecedented scale. As a result, FirstFuel utility customers can reduce time-to-engage customers by 75-90 percent, double uptake in efficiency projects and enable 15-20 percent in energy savings. FirstFuel’s custom, building-specific analysis also provides the actionable intelligence needed for utilities to target business customers with new programs, products and services.
The company added 11 new utility and government agencies to its customer base in 2014, including major utilities Southern California Edison and E.ON UK. Additionally, FirstFuel expanded program scope with many of its existing customers. FirstFuel is on track to exceed 700,000 commercial meters on the platform by early 2015, a 700 percent YOY increase. To support this fast growing customer roster, FirstFuel nearly doubled its employee base in 2014, adding new team members across its global offices.
FirstFuel’s SaaS platform has analyzed buildings in nearly every state within the U.S. and expanded its presence to Europe and Canada this year. In addition, FirstFuel has received honors for its projects with the nation’s two largest government real estate managers – the Department of Defense (DoD) and the General Services Administration (GSA). The former was awarded “ESTCP Project of the Year” and the latter named “Environmental Leader’s Project of the Year,” both recognizing the cost and energy impacts of the FirstFuel Remote Building Analytics (RBA) platform.
Other key highlights for FirstFuel in 2014 include a strategic partnership with Opower that will help utilities engage customers in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors with a single best-of-breed solution for utilities. Announced in September, the partnership has already contracted with a major U.S. utility to provide full-spectrum service. FirstFuel also welcomed several industry leaders to its advisory board, including Dian Grueneich, former Commissioner, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC); Jon Wellinghoff, former Chairman, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC); Tim Melloch, former Director, Energy Efficiency for Commonwealth Edison (ComEd); and Francis (Frank) Murray, former President and CEO, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
“This has been an incredibly exciting year for the company as we continue to bring utilities and government agencies the tools they need to meet their business goals and stay competitive in today’s dynamic energy environment,” said Swap Shah, CEO, FirstFuel. “It’s a time of great change for energy providers, which is why we are continuing to evolve our energy intelligence platform to provide our customers with the tools they need to become a trusted energy advisor to their business customers. We look forward to a strong 2015 with a focus on broadening our customer engagement platform, expanding current and new energy provider partnerships, and growing our footprint globally.”
FirstFuel’s impressive growth was recognized by several outside organizations, including the CleanTech Global 100 Award; Boston Business Journal Innovation All-Star, Clean Tech Category; Fierce Innovation Awards Finalist; and NECEC Green Tie Gala Finalist (in addition to the ESTCP and Environmental Leader awards previously mentioned).
