Think Starts Production of It’s New Electric Car, the Th!Nk City at It’s Factory In Norway

Date: 11/28/2007

Company: TH!nk North America, Think Global

Segment: Transportation, Vehicles

The production of Think’s new electric car the TH!NK City has begun. Production takes place in Thinks Norwegian factory outside Oslo. The production start- up is going according to plan, and on November 28th the first TH!NK City left the assembly line in the factory. The first cars will now go through testing and road trials under Norwegian winter conditions.

The TH!NK city will be on the road during the first six months of 2008.

In other words, the Think factory is a hive of activity, as the process has moved from making prototypes to building complete production cars. The first cars will be used for quality verification, and will be tested against a strict validation plan. During 2008, the production will be built up so it will reach 3500 cars by year end. The factory has capacity for double shifts.

-“With the production start in November, this project is on time and the prototype phase is over. We are building full production cars with all the right components from the right suppliers that have now been through several months of quality testing” says Jan-Olaf Willums, CEO of Think Global.

Earlier this fall, Think signed a contract with Porsche Consulting. Porsche engineers have been working side by side with Think employees, to bring Porsches experience within “lean manufacturing” in to the factory, especially within factory layout and logistics. The goal is to enhance the flow of production in the factory, and to ensure that the cars are being produced most efficiently and with the highest quality standards. The Porsche factory is the most profitable factory in Europe.
